A Fortist óra márkát 1912-ben Walter Vogt alapította. Tizenkét évvel az alapítása után a Vogt John Harwood- nal, az automatikus karóra feltalálójával kezdte meg a gyártást. 1926-ban a Fortis kiadta a szabadalmaztatott Harwood Automatic-ot , az első öntekercselő karórát a Baselworld-nél. A Fortis a több mint 100 éves múltja során, nagyon sok díjat nyert a repülés és űrhalyózás szerelmeseként. Minden évtizedben, az ikonikus eseményekre egy speciális karórával készült. A termékek folyamatos fejlesztése mellett, a márka egyre nagyobb körben terjedt el. Több szabadalom is a nevükhöz köthető. 2017-ben egy nagyobb változáson esett át a cég, az egyik magánbefektető rajongójuk vette át a cég irányítását, Jupp Philipp. A márka újabb lendületett kapott és folyamatosan tartja a lépést a legnagyobb svájci márkákkal.
