In 2017, in honor of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, TAG Heuer created a special, limited series version of the deservedly successful Carrera. 750 pieces of the watch were made in the world, so it can be said to be truly special.
The Ali edition was inspired by the 1957 Heuer Ring Master-box chronograph stopwatch. The watch perfectly combines the timing function of the Ring Master with the design of the popular Carrera Driver Timer Caliber 5.
The dial is opal black, the date window is located at index 6, directly below the Muhhamad Ali signature. The rotating ring, which is numbered 1-15, helps with different timings. The seconds hand is white gold, lacquered.
The case of the watch is made of polished stainless steel, with a case back of 43 mm. The Tag Heuer shield can be seen on the crown at 3 o'clock. There is a thin lacquered red line on the crown at 10 o'clock. The glass of the watch is sapphire crystal glass. On the back of the watch is an engraved portrait of Muhammad Ali, "Tribute to Muhammad Ali".
The movement of the watch is an automatic Caliber 5 with fast date correction. The diameter of the structure is 26 mm, 26 jewels, with a power reserve of 38 hours. The strap is perforated leather with red stitching and a steel buckle with safety buttons.
How does it work?
What about the dial with patterned colors? Heavyweight boxing was 3 minutes every 15 minutes, with a one minute break at the end of each round. This gives 15 x 4 = 60 minutes on the dial. The matches are in 12 rounds, TAG Heuer kept the traditional layout.
But the new Ali Edition has two markings: one with cream and a second red ... why?
This is because some amateur boxing and women's boxing have three rounds instead of two minutes, so this watch can do both. The cream/yellow markings are 2 minute segments with a one minute break in black, while the red markings are three minute rounds with a one minute break also in black.
Overall, the watch can be said to be a truly special piece that reflects both the past and the present."
