New Edition - Tissot Sideral S Powermatic 80 Collection

In 1969, Tissot introduced the Sideral collection, which was designed as a modern timepiece for the younger generation. The fiberglass case, which was a first in the history of the watch industry, was significantly different from traditional watches. When the Sideral S model arrived in 1971, the collection received a colorful update. The 2023 edition revives this classic Sideral S design, redesigned with today's materials.

The case of the new Tissot Sideral is 41 mm in diameter, 46.5 mm from lug to lug, and instead of being made of fiberglass, the case of the new Sideral is 'forged carbon'. Just as the original 1970's Sideral was a modern fiberglass material in its day, the modern Sideral fulfills this role with the carbon case. The glass of the watch and the glass of the back are sapphire, the screw back is steel and its water resistance is 300 meters, making it a perfect choice for any water sport. The bezel can be rotated in one direction, is made of steel and has a black PVD coating. With this in mind, Sideral is designed for multi-purpose athletes.

The collection is available in three different colors: yellow (ref. T145.407.97.057.00), blue (ref. T145.407.97.057.01) and red (ref. T145.407.97.057.02). In the case of the yellow and blue models, according to the color of the strap, the interior of the dial is also in the same color, in the case of the red, it is gray. In addition, the yellow and red models are available with a traditional black carbon case, but the blue model has blue stripes in the black carbon case to make it completely unique and striking.

The new Sideral models are independent of color in all three versions, the basic design of the dial is the same, on a black background, white printing, the date window at 3 o'clock, and a red and green scale between 12 and 2 o'clock, which was inspired by a regatta countdown. The Sideral S logo from the old Sideral model has disappeared here, the seconds hand displays a letter T, and the dial also shines in different colors in the dark.

We cannot go past the movement, which is the Powermatic 80 movement. It is essentially a further development of the ETA 2824 movement, which is also used by many Swatch Group brands. In addition to the Powermatic 80 movement, the new Sideral features the new Nivachron balance spring for outstanding magnetic resistance. Its operating frequency has been reduced from 28,800 vph (4 Hz) to 21,600 vph (3 Hz), which allows for a power reserve of approximately 80 hours.

All Tissot Siderals are equipped with the same style of rubber strap. The straps look more or less exactly like the Sideral strap from the early 1970s. Available in yellow, blue or red, the straps are made of textured rubber, in accordance with the colors of the watches, but instead of a plain spike or butterfly buckle, a unique solution was chosen. This may be the most suitable solution for the forerunners of the rubber straps used by Apple, we can connect two small spikes on both sides to the strap with holes.

All in all, the new Tissot Sideral sought to recreate the family in an affordable, youthful way, which we think it succeeded.
